THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Updated: Apr 27, 2021

Throughout the year I have been completing an assignment on sustainability within the design industry. I based my report on two case studies, one of which was the People's Pavilion, designed for Dutch Design Week. I found this project very interesting and inspiring to think more about the impact we, as designers, can have on the environment. After completing my research for my project on the Pavilion I looked into the Pavilion's designers more. They did a talk on the circular economy with other designers, giving their opinion on how the circular economy works.

The talk was done by Dezeen, who spoke to a number of different designers about how they have used the circular economy within their designs. One designer explained that the circular economy is for architectures to always be aware and know where materials are sourced from and where they end up after use. I think that this is something that all designers need to consider when designing their projects in order to have a positive impact on the environment and reduce the amount of CO2 being released into the atmosphere.

I found this talk very interesting and eye opening to the way that designers are working with a circular economy. It has made me think about materials that I have used within my design projects in university and whether they are environmentally friendly or not. I will definitely take these factors into consideration when leaving university.
